Coffee, the nectar of life, the gift of the Gods and the only thing that will actually change my irritating disposition first thing in the morning to one of becoming somewhat human. Coffee revitalizes, not only the spirit, but also the taste buds that have atrophied during the night, jump starts the brain, and gives meaning to life. But is it healthy? According to some people, the answer is a resounding NO. But realize that these are the people who consume pseudo things like tofu and those other vile stuff they call health food and their opinions do not count.
Research is showing that coffee drinkers, compared to nondrinkers, are:
- less likely to have type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, and dementia
- have fewer cases of certain cancers, heart rhythm problems, and strokes
- less grumpy than their non-coffee counterparts
- And there is of a no evidence of a difference between caffeine, non-caffeine, perked and “instant” coffees…..see post….
“There is certainly much more good news than bad news, in terms of coffee and health,” says Frank Hu, MD, MPH, PhD, nutrition and epidemiology professor at the Harvard School of Public Health”.(ABS News)
But coffee isn’t proven to prevent those conditions, just possibly, slow them down.
“Researchers don’t ask people to drink or skip coffee for science’s sake. Instead, they ask them about their coffee habits. Those studies can’t show cause and effect. It’s possible that coffee drinkers have other advantages, such as better diets, more exercise, or protective genes.” (ABC News
So, there isn’t solid proof of this research. But, there are hopeful signs that might quiet the naysayers and heath gurus to relinquish their opinions that unless food is 100% organic, picked by people in sterile suits and processed under nonpolluting conditions, that some of the delicacies we enjoy will not kill us.
and to go with your new health drink….a snack
